After initially teaching computer science at a technical college in London, John went on to join Warren Point Ltd in 1977. He led the team that produced the ground-breaking Machine Independent Compiler for ATLAS (MICA), as featured in the Sunday Times.
John was also central to the software design for the camera and program control systems at the BBC 9 o’clock news studio, which involved design and coding in Coral which cross compiled to 8086 code. Other projects include:
- Motorway incident detection systems
- Test specification of nosewheel steering system for Tornado aircraft
- Analysis of microcomputer systems for the DTI
- Various MoD projects
Throughout the 80s, John worked with Lydiastar/DHL to set up a worldwide message switching system, as well as designing and building individual tracking and billing systems. He has worked on custom applications for:World Bank
- International Monetary Fund
- Schenkers
