ISDN and Analogue is coming to the end of the line. What should your organisation do?

ISDN’s days are numbered, with Openreach having announced that soon, new ISDN and Analogue networks will not be purchasable, following plans to pull the plug on ISDN and PSTN circuits all together in 2025.

While this date may seem a long way off, many businesses will be affected before then. We encourage everyone to prioritise their migration to a Hosted Voice or Teams Voice products to ensure you are ready for the upcoming changes.

Why is Openreach pulling the plug?

Technology has become faster, smarter, and more agile since the initial days of ISDN and Analogue lines. For this reason, a lot of businesses will have already swapped out their ISDN and Analogue telephony for the latest technology on the market. From Openreach’s perspective, maintaining multiple legacy networks is burning a large hole in their pocket, so converging all services to one network opposed to several is much more cost effective.

What is the ISDN and Analogue replacement?

With the phone lines being virtual, users are able to benefit from greater flexibility of where and when they work, as the ability to make and take calls wherever they have an internet connection, opposed to legacy phone systems which rely on the presence of a physical ISDN line. Not to mention a vast array of operational benefits:

  • Keeping the same number, no matter where they are.
  • ensuring business continuity and maximised uptime ; better to deal with emergencies.
  • Saving on call costs, call forwarding and connectivity charges.
  • Removing need for costly ISDN or Telephone System maintenance.

Although 2025 may seem a long way from now, the date each customer location will be affected is fast approaching. If your current ISDN / Analogue telephony contract is due for renewal within the next few years, now is the time to start exploring the benefits of VoIP technologies.
